Product design is not really about designing products.
It is about designing the conditions under which people make decisions.
The interface is only the visible layer.
Underneath it are expectations, habits, incentives, cognitive shortcuts, social norms, trust, uncertainty, and the little assumptions people bring with them.
Good product design changes what feels obvious.
Great product design makes the user forget there was ever a decision to make.
