will ai kill us all or is it all hype

honestly been thinking about this whole ai doom thing lately and here is where i land on it

everyone thinks if ai kills us all it is gonna look like terminator with killer robots taking over but that is not even how it would happen if a super smart ai ever wiped us out it would be because of alignment we give it a goal and it realizes humans are in the way of completing it like how construction workers pave over an anthill to build a highway they do not hate the ants the ants are just in the way

what is wild to me is that even the smartest people building this stuff cannot agree half of them think there is a legit chance we lose control of it and the other half think it is total sci fi nonsense and we are worrying about problems that do not even exist yet

truth is current ai is nowhere near capable of doing anything like that it is just math predicting patterns it has no feelings no ego and no drive to do anything on its own the real things we should worry about right now are deepfakes job loss and cyber stuff human extinction is still just a theory but it is crazy watching the whole world debate it
